YEAR 6

As we head into the final weeks of the Year 6’s time in primary school we are extremely busy.

Graduation

We will be holding the Year 6 Graduation on the 5th December at 6pm at the Goulburn Valley Hotel in the Atrium. The Atrium is upstairs and so the access to enter is through the front of the venue.

English: Debating Competition

The Years 6’s are spending a lot of time during class, preparing for our Intercampus Debating Competition. We wish them all the best on the day and hope that their hard work pays off.

Science:

We are learning about Natural Disasters in Science. The students are expected to create an interactive presentation about their chosen/allocated topic.

Physical Education

During the first two weeks, the students attended the Inter-School Sports day and our annual Sports Carnival. I was very happy with the participation from all students.

Thank - you Year 6’s

I would like to extend my thanks to the year sixes on our Athletics Day. Those who chose to participate did so responsibly and showed great sportsmanship. Those who chose to take on other roles (Hassan and Mahnoor) excelled in their leadership of younger students.

“On the School Athletics Day, we competed in many different events and I enjoyed most of them.” Mohamad.

“Athletics Day was very exhausting and Ibrahim bet me in every single event except sack race.” Reda

Headspace

On the first Wednesday of Term 4, Year 6’s attended an open day at Headspace. It allowed them to see the space and facilities on offer. They also were able to participate in activities such as weaving and making smoothies. One of the staff members also spoke to students about what head space offers them. Some of the students enjoyed the free lunch that was provided whilst others played football.

If you need information about what Headspace offers, check out their webpage below or drop into the Headspace Centre at 129 High Street, Shepparton.

“When we went to Headspace, I made smoothies and did weaving with wool and icy pole sticks.” Mohamad

“Headspace was a very interesting space because we were able to make smoothies, create a sewing (weaving) piece of work. They also had sausages which were delicious.” Reda

“I enjoyed making the smoothies and creating a piece of weaving at Headspace. The sausages from the BBQ were tasty.” Sibel

ICT

On the first Thursday, we had a visit from Catherine from Australian Computer Society. She introduced Year 6’s to shaking tables which simulated earthquakes. The shaking tables link the coding skills we learnt in term 3 when using cubits in our integrated unit on Natural Disaster.

This term we will be focusing on building Webpages from scratch using Markup.

“I liked using the shake tables because we were able to use marshmallows and spaghetti to create a house that needed to be sturdy to survive the shake tables.” Mohamad

Drama/ Concert

Year 6’s will be marked on their participation in the concert.

Students are practising Jungle Book during their lunch times. We have seen so much improvement and the goal is that students recite their words, use expression and actions to add more drama and meaning to their performances. As of this week, during period 7 on Fridays, the actors will be practising every Friday afternoon.

Well done to all involved! Keep up the hard work.
